| For
a long time, I've been interested in Teleworking - the concept of
working from somewhere other than a fixed office. This often can
mean working from home, but really can encompass anywhere. The
idea of not having to commute, for a start, is compelling.
Nowadays, many people can not or will not fit into the 9-to-5 routine,
and look for other ways in which to balance their home and working
lives. The combination of telecommunications and computing technologies makes it possible for work to be reorganised in time and space in a huge variety of ways, enabling new choices to be opened up in terms of who does what work, when, when and how. Teleworking is a word which describes some of these new choices. Teleworking could take the form of working from home some or all of the time, working while on the move, working from a remotely sited office etc. but it is a mistake to regard it as any single, fixed form of employment.
