My first memories of TinTin are from the school summer
holidays, when the BBC would put on a load of old black & white serials such as Belle
& Sebastian, The White Horses, and Robinson Crusoe. This would
be followed by "...Herge's Aaaaadventures of TinTin!" The old cartoons were
lacking in animation, but alive with the spirit and look of Herge's books. Soon after, I was searching for the books themselves - printed in the UK by Methuen, for the sum of 35p. What struck me was colour and detail of Herge's work. Was this really drawn for kids? Well, No. I don't think it was. |

| Herg
(pseudonym of Georges Remi, 1907-1983), Belgian author and illustrator,
created Tintin in 1929 and produced 23 volumes of the internationally
famous bande dessine by the time of his death. Known as the father of
the modern European comic book, Herg's impeccable style and superb use
of colour won him international acclaim after the Second World War, and
the books have been translated from the original French into some 40
languages.
TINTIN By profession a reporter, he is also an adventurer. We only see Tintin once sending back a report to his editor and that takes place in Tintin in the land of the Soviets. The famous quiff is born in the same adventure. He is courageous, intelligent, cunning, ingenious, level-headed, ageless, modest and, to all intents and purposes, invincible. |
